About This Artwork
I've wanted to create a Queen Bee themed print for awhile but wasn't sure where I wanted to take it. When I read that one of Vermont's state symbols is a bee, that's all it took to get things started. Instead of laying out the design in a sketch, I worked from the center and built the imagery outward from the striking face of the Ocelot. The dueling golden bears that flank the Queen left to right represent conflict over the female and her honey. There are a lot of small elements with double meaning hidden throughout as well as a layer of heraldry that I hope comes thru.
