Roy DeCarava: the sound i saw
A major presentation of Roy DeCarava's photographs exploring the relationship between the visual and the aural.
Curated by Ebony L. Haynes, Roy DeCarava: the sound i saw brings together more than 130 photographs made between the late 1940s and the 1960s. The exhibition interweaves New York street life with intimate images of jazz musicians, revealing DeCarava's rich tonal language and his attention to Black experience, work, performance, and everyday life. It is the largest presentation of this body of work since its inaugural 1983 exhibition at the Studio Museum in Harlem.
