Franco-Swiss artist Saype brought his global Beyond Walls project to the U.S. for the first time with a monumental temporary mural across Boom Island Park in Minneapolis.

The biodegradable ground painting stretches roughly 310 by 75 feet, covering about 23,000 square feet of lawn beside the Mississippi River. Its clasping arms are meant as a public gesture of solidarity, resilience, and togetherness.

A Temporary Chain
Hundreds of residents gathered during the first weekend in June to watch the work take shape and form a human chain around the image. Like other works in the series, the mural is designed to fade gradually with weather, time, and mowing.
