Art Basel has confirmed that its Paris fair will not open on Saturday, October 24, or Sunday, October 25. The 2026 edition now ends at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 23, removing two public days from the schedule at the Grand Palais.
The decision turns what was planned as a full weekend of viewing into a compressed final day for galleries, collectors, and the public. Organizers said the change was made to protect visitors, exhibitors, partners, staff, and artworks amid planned demonstrations in Paris.
Two public days are removed
This year's fair brings together 211 galleries from 41 countries and territories, according to the Grand Palais program. Friday is now the only remaining public day, following preview activity earlier in the week.

The shortened run has practical consequences beyond ticketing. Exhibitors lose the fair's busiest weekend window, while scheduled conversations, sales appointments, and public programming have to be canceled or rearranged. Visitors should consult the official visitor information page before traveling.
A wider cultural shutdown
The fair's decision arrives as cultural institutions across Paris prepare for disruption connected to planned protests. The Associated Press reports that major museums and landmarks are also closing or limiting access while French authorities deploy additional security nationally.
The closures reflect precaution rather than a prediction about how demonstrations will unfold. For Art Basel, however, the commercial and logistical effects are immediate: a major international fair built around a four-day public rhythm is ending after one public day.
About the 2026 edition
Art Basel Paris returned to the Grand Palais with gallery presentations, a public program, and projects extending beyond the fair floor. The organizer's 2026 press dossier provides the wider program and exhibitor context.
News of the early closure was first shared with Art Vault through Hypebeast's report.
