G-Son Studios, the former Beastie Boys recording space in Los Angeles’ Atwater Village, is being restored and reimagined as a multi-purpose creative venue. The studio first opened in 1991 and became a key part of the Beastie Boys’ creative world, serving as the place where they worked on landmark albums like Check Your Head and Ill Communication.

The space also became home to Grand Royal, the group’s influential label, and Mike D’s X-Large clothing line, making G-Son more than just a recording studio. It was a clubhouse, workshop, and cultural hub where music, fashion, art, and skate culture all collided.

Now, Adam Englander is leading a restoration project that will bring the space back as a home for performances, screenings, workshops, DJ sets, gallery nights, rehearsals, and community programming. For fans of Beastie Boys history and LA creative culture, the return of G-Son feels like the revival of a space that helped shape a generation of sound and style.
